Good that you're attending regularly as quite a lot happens in this unit. Obviously those who are not attending, won't read this but if you do, be nice to see you more. Please keep ypur module folders up to date and use the categories as shown on this blog, down the side. I expect to see all the handouts and your comments from the sessions, as well as the blog comments I asked you to make about the mag articles, and can design research and dev. There have been some good blog comments with interesting links, but quite a few of you haven't done it yet. This is a useful tool to build your confidence gain more knowledge and may help towards work experience.
Well done with the cans! I think they look good in Room 1 and look forward to the last ones getting there. If you can make time please try and see the link here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00vhw1d/Horizon_20102011_Is_Seeing_Believing/
It's a programme about seeing and how the brain works, which fits in with the Friday stuff, but is very useful food for thought. It won't be up there for long so try and catch it.

Mags/Books/websites/blogs
Good to talk about marketing, and the complex issues effecting design briefs in the current climate. It allows for some initiative from design groups and designers who work collaboratively to offer new ideas, but this will be subject to the quality of their research and knowledge, with a creative mind. It was good to see you looking at the magazines and picking out articles of interest.Of course this can be done on line, but WH Smith still seems to have an abundance of printed magazines even though many thought these might die. Ironically, a lot of them are about computers. I look forward to your comments with links in them, to see what articles and ads caught your eye. Also, don't forget your finished cans next week as I have to assess them and hopefully we will display them for all to see.

Traditional skills and Digital skills
Good news. Glad to see some of you already visiting the blog. I've put some pdfs up on the content part of the module in Wolsey so you review them. Lewis showed a fun but slightly dark film about the destruction of NY have a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGeuiZr-u50 I was pleased you have opinions to share and I hope you can contribute more as we go on. Bad news- sorry to see some of you unable to overcome that difficult task of looking up Yell.com. Looking forward to and seeing module folder. Also, don't forget your cans in progress for an INTERIM crit and bring any roughs that show your ideas in development. It is not a final crit.
Think about those traditional skills like learning musical instruments, which of course are probably obsolescent neanderthal pastimes for those who like a bit of Fruityloops. Never mind - cookery is so boring when we've all get microwaves.
But seriously, the more skills you develop the better, and think about the relationship between traditional skills and digital skills. I think they can both inform and generate ideas but they need enquiring and questioning attitudes.
