Good news. Glad to see some of you already visiting the blog. I've put some pdfs up on the content part of the module in Wolsey so you review them. Lewis showed a fun but slightly dark film about the destruction of NY have a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGeuiZr-u50 I was pleased you have opinions to share and I hope you can contribute more as we go on. Bad news- sorry to see some of you unable to overcome that difficult task of looking up Yell.com. Looking forward to and seeing module folder. Also, don't forget your cans in progress for an INTERIM crit and bring any roughs that show your ideas in development. It is not a final crit.
Think about those traditional skills like learning musical instruments, which of course are probably obsolescent neanderthal pastimes for those who like a bit of Fruityloops. Never mind - cookery is so boring when we've all get microwaves.
But seriously, the more skills you develop the better, and think about the relationship between traditional skills and digital skills. I think they can both inform and generate ideas but they need enquiring and questioning attitudes.

I thought that video was brilliant, well done to Lewis for finding it. Definatly goes with what was being said last week about making something that makes other people smile.
ReplyDeletewhat a brilliant video!!! the best video i have seen for a while for pure skill. some amazing effects used and a lot of creativity !!
ReplyDeletegood find, really like this the graphics work on it are amazing!
ReplyDeleteNot really sure where we were meant to post about our magazine articles from today so i thought id put it here.
ReplyDeleteI had Eye magazine - not one i've heard of before but was interesting. A kind of graphics and design magazine with a heavily typographic slant.
When i flicked through it i came across this double page spread on punctuation, it made me think a little about the way we use punctuation, weather in its proper gramatical sense or in any other way, and the way that modernisation has effected it- mainly text talk and abbreviations. I wonder if people saw colons and brackets as smiley faces before mobile phones?
Anyways, even if you dont care about the grammar the cartoons are funny. Heres a flikr link so you can take a look at it >

Not sure where to put this but I found these artists in one of the magazines you let us borrow last week.
ReplyDeleteFernanda Cohen
Fernanda Cohen is from New York. I like the Illustrative imagination, experimentation with drawings, pictures and different materials and use of bright colors in their work. They use people figures in their work a lot and it looks as though they use their illustrations to represent fashion mostly.
Anthony Rule
Anthony Rule is an Illustrator from Nottingham. His work is quite comical which I like and it's fun. I like the bright colors he uses and the standard of his work is really good quality. He draws mostly cartoon characters. His work could be used for TV, holiday posters, children’s books or magazines. I really like his fun animal characters wearing clothes, they’re a fun idea. His work catches your eye because of the bright colours.
David Shrigley
David Shrigley is an illustrator from Macclesfield. He uses mostly black and white line drawings in his illustrations. His work is quite crude. I like his work because it's amusing, bizarre and it’s original and creative.
I thought the video was amazing! I especially like the comment somebody left on the youtube page about it being better than the movie 21012!
ReplyDeleteIt's true.. it is better!
